Uttar Pradesh Technical University is one of the largest technical universities in Asia and established by the Uttar Pradesh Government in year 2000.Due to heavy workload in 2010 a bill was passed and it was divided it to two separate universities. Gautam Buddha technical University and Mahamaya Technical University. The different kind of courses offered by these universities from Aerospace Engineering to Agriculture Engineering and others professional technical courses. These universities not only provide technical courses but also provide scholarships to the needy and merit students as well those who are eligible under the norms of the Indian Government. There are nearly about 75,000 students looking for education in all the affiliated colleges under these universities.
The Uttar Pradesh Technical University offer scholarships to the students from the minorities, lower castes and students having gross family income less than 1 lakh. Recently the Uttar Pradesh scholarship process has been computerized to check that the benefit of the scholarship goes to the right person. UPTU also provides free hostel and mess facilities to all the scholarship benefited students. The main aim behind it is to bring awareness among the backward communities, minorities and to help those who are under the poverty line.
The Collectorate body awarded all these scholarships and scholarships paid in two installments one in the first half of the year and rest in the second half. The scholarship amount is deposited in the students account directly from where he can collect the sum. The college fees are taken care by the social welfare department of the government which has different governing bodies for different communities and minorities.
In the beginning of the academic year official beneficiaries students have to fill the forms for which they have to submit certain gazette documents to prove their claim. These certificates are scrutinized by the governing authorities and the final decision of the beneficiaries is taken. This is because many of the students from UP have decided to go out of the state for their professional education.
The scholarships are subdivided according to the community such as OBC, SC, ST, Minority and General. There are four different slabs to provide different amount of scholarships so these scholarships provide quality education and offer financial help to increase awareness and increase chances of complete literacy.
